You don't need a saliva test or a blood test to know where you fall on the Covid-19 divide here in my country or anywhere else around the world. The gap between the two camps has opened so wide, there's no room for doubt any more.
On one side are the people who believe in the existential threat to our health and well-being, and the necessity for swift draconian social isolation measures. They believe the dangers of a health-care system overload are valid, and letting the infection get out of control could bring unprecedented tragedy, something that's unacceptable, given the technological and scientific development of the world in 2020. They believe the crisis could be contained to bearable levels both through mobilizing the central government resources and the solidary aid networks at a basic inter-personal level. They believe the economy will sooner or later get back to its feet, as it has done after so many world wars, natural disasters and other catastrophic changes.
The opposing side of the divide includes people who are convinced they're the only sane voices in a huge asylum the size of planet Earth populated by seven and a half billion lunatics. They believe the mainstream media and the social networks are creating a self-destructive hysteria without realizing the damaging effect on all political decision-making and social behavior. They believe Covid-19 is an exaggerated threat, because many more people die of seasonal flu, road accidents, heart stroke, cancer, home violence, or other "enemies" that we've grown accustomed to, and take for granted. They believe a civilization collapse, if it ever happens, wouldn't be because of "catching a cold", but because of our own stupidity, panic and conformism.
